Black II, Autumn 2016

In this collection I continued my work with Kumihimo silk braiding, producing two necklaces and two brooches in black and white silk. I am still intrigued with the zig-zag patterns from previous collections and experimented further with changing this pattern randomly, making these necklaces completely unique, one-off pieces.

The zig-zag pattern of these pieces is produced by by the arrangement of colour (black and white silk threads) around the marudai (loom) and by the way I move the bobbins around the loom. This produces initially a stripy pattern. However, when I change the direction of my movements (going backwards), a zig is produced. Changing direction again, a zag is produced - and in this way a zig-zag pattern emerges in the braid.

For the other pieces (rings, earrings and cufflinks) I experimented with geometric shapes and contrasting colours - blackened (oxidized) and white silver as well as using 18ct gold on some of these pieces.
