Blue and Green Silk, 2015

This collection has been a few years in the making and is the first collection, following my return to jewellery making.

Over the last few years I explored the Japanese technique of Kumihimo silk braiding - an ancient technique used to make the Obijime to hold the and used the braids in necklaces and brooches.

I reduced the scale and colour schemes of traditional Kumihimo braid patterns to adapt them to my work. They are made using dark blue / dark green and grey silk. The pattern on the two necklaces subtly changes and is only revealed upon closer examination. The braiding process takes time and requires attention and patience. Depending on the pattern, each braid is ca. 3-5 mm thick. The silver elements echo and accentuate the beautiful simplicity of the pattern of each braid.

If not sold, some individual pieces of this collection are still available through my shop.
