Necklace with oval pendant from recycled silver and HDPE plastic

Necklace with oval pendant from recycled silver and HDPE plastic

£160.00

This beautifully minimal necklace is one of my latest pieces, combining timeless elegance with simplicity. It belongs to a group of new pieces in the HDPE/HOPE collection which re-uses HDPE plastic from single-use milk bottles.

The pieces in this series are concerned with the environmental crisis and seek to question our perception of beauty & preciousness and its associations to materials such as gold and silver. They draw attention to the issue of ‘value’ attached to precious resources such as gold & silver and ‘single-use’ every-day items that are discarded and end in landfill, even though they are also made from a precious resource - oil. The pieces therefore aim to elevate the material plastic from waste to elegance.

The pendant is threaded onto 3 rows of flexible stainless steel spiral neck wire with a double-clip clasp. The neck wire was sourced from a company which produces this extremely flexible wire, which is made by winding a flat wire around a specially constructed centre. This ensures maximum protection against kinking of the wire.

The pendant is completely removable from the neck wire. This is due to UK hallmarking regulations

The pendant is made from recycled silver as well as re-used HDPE plastic. The silver has been textured and given a gentle curve. It is oxidised on the front to give greater contrast to the HDPE discs. All is held together by two tiny micro-rivets.
